Ayorinde Afolayan is a postdoctoral research scientist at the Institute for Infection Prevention and Control, University Hospital, Freiburg, Germany. In this role, he leads the development and maintenance of bioinformatics pipelines for real-time tracking of pathogen acquisition in the neonatal intensive care unit. Previously, he worked as a postdoctoral research scientist at the Global Health Research Unit, University of Ibadan, Nigeria, where he actively participated in the genomic surveillance of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens. With a PhD in Pharmaceutical Microbiology, he is passionate about applying genomics and metagenomics for the surveillance of antimicrobial resistance in humans, animals, and the environment.
